About the Founder

Lyric Whitener is the Founder of Compass Collective, a professional development platform dedicated to helping young professionals navigate their careers with confidence, intention, and purpose. A native of North Carolina, Lyric’s career has been rooted in education, workforce development, and creating pathways to opportunity. She began her professional journey in the nonprofit sector, supporting educational and career access programs throughout Western North Carolina before transitioning into academic leadership, where she oversaw educational programming and student success initiatives for at-risk youth ages 5–13.

Building on her passion for student development, Lyric moved into higher education, serving in admissions for a health sciences college where she guided prospective students through pivotal educational and career decisions. In this role, she contributed to academic boards, developed admissions guidelines, and helped maintain institutional standards for student quality and success. Through her work with students at various stages of their educational journeys, Lyric gained firsthand insight into the challenges many emerging professionals face when preparing for the workforce. She observed a recurring gap between academic achievement and career readiness—particularly in navigating professional environments, understanding workplace culture, and strategically planning for long-term career growth.

These observations were further reinforced through her work as a corporate recruiter and talent professional within an enterprise environment. Drawing from experiences across nonprofit organizations, K–12 education, higher education, healthcare education, and corporate recruiting, Lyric recognized a clear need for intentional spaces where young professionals could access guidance, resources, and community as they transition into the workforce. This realization inspired the creation of Compass Collective—a platform designed to equip emerging professionals with the tools, insights, and support needed to move forward with preparation, adaptability, and purpose. Through educational programming, professional services, networking opportunities, and career-focused resources, Lyric is committed to helping the next generation hone their craft, expand their perspectives, and confidently pursue meaningful careers.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Lyric enjoys traveling, exploring vibrant city life in Charlotte, NC, weightlifting, practicing yoga, spending time outdoors, and making memories with her dog, Oliver. She is passionate about personal growth, lifelong learning, and creating opportunities that empower others to reach their full potential.
